Club championships: entry, format and seeding

The club championships run from mid-June to finals day in late July.

Events

  • Men's and Ladies' Singles
  • Men's, Ladies' and Mixed Doubles
  • Men's and Ladies' Singles Plate (for first-round losers)
  • Over-45 Singles
  • Junior Singles - U12, U14, U16

You may enter a maximum of three events, of which no more than one may be a singles event.

Entry

Entry opens on 1 May and closes on 5 June. Enter through Competitions on the member portal. Entry is 8 per event, 4 for juniors, and covers balls for every round.

You must have been a member for at least 30 days at the point of entry.

Format

Rounds up to the semi-final are player-arranged: you are given your opponent's contact details and a deadline, and you agree a time and book the court yourselves. Court fees do not apply to championship matches - book the slot and tag it as a championship match.

Matches are best of three tie-break sets. Semi-finals and finals are scheduled by the committee and played on court 1 with an umpire.

Deadlines

Each round has a hard deadline. If a match is not played by the deadline, the committee decides the outcome, normally in favour of the player who can show they offered reasonable dates. Offer at least three dates, in writing, through the portal message thread - it is the record we look at.

Seeding

Seeds are set by the committee from the internal ladder standing on 1 June, last year's championship results and known form. Seeding is not appealable, though we are always happy to explain it.
